EDA is a master course addressed to students seeking a degree that combines a solid training in economics with quantitative techniques and a thorough knowledge of the European and global economic and institutional context.
In the era of information and globalization these are key competencies: students of Economics and Data Analysis learn how to assess the impact of normative, institutional and policy changes on businesses’ conduct, households choices and countries’ growth prospects; through advanced methods in statistics and econometrics EDA students are trained to use data as a source of information and knowledge.
The course covers a wide range of economics fields, including international economic policy, industrial economics, labour economics, innovation and macroeconomics. Students learn to use various types of data, from firm balance sheets to official statistics and big data; they learn to perform applied economic and statistical analysis, impact evaluations and forecast scenarios.
The curriculum EMOS-EDA enhances statistical skills, offers a teaching environment strictly linked to National Statistical Offices and Eurostat and innovative teaching methods like webinar. It offers summer/spring schools and requires compulsory internships at National Statistical Offices.
The curriculum EDA offers a program for economic analysts that couples advanced economic theory with frontier data analysis techniques. A double degree program is active with the University of Trier (ranked among the first three German universities with regards to Economics Master programs Germany) and internships, stages and learning periods abroad are encouraged and assisted.
Teaching methods and Faculty-Students meetings are part of the learning methods and aim to raise students’ critical approach and their communications abilities; a mentoring program is also in place to guide and advice each student throughout the two-years. On the whole students develop language, relational and decisional skills which will strengthen the specific economic competences and prepare to high-level professional careers.

Graduates are expected to successfully compete for jobs in firms and financial institutions, in consulting, in national and international public institutions and corporates. Graduates will aim to roles that require abilities to relate to international partners, assess the efficacy of institutional and normative changes, governmental policies as well as specific programs and businesses’ investments, where autonomous judgment and decisional capacity are required.
EMOS-EDA graduates will aim to positions where statistical leadership in handling and understanding large amount of data and in using data for decision making are crucial activities.
